Unable to Display Chinese charchters in mail body when sent emailthrough SMTP server

Hi,

We have created a new email notification functionality and for sending email we are using SMTP server, custom agent is created to call procedure which would trigger the email

The mails pick up data from the OTM backend and post it in the mail body in HTML format.

Email alerts is beeing send but there are some fields like shipment refnum value and Location XID, which are in Chinese characters, but they are not coming in chinese character in email, they are been displayed as '?' marks in the mail body, but OTM database has the correct data in Location and shipment refnum table.

Please suggest.
