Planning Parameter CONNECT SHIPMENT GRAPHS FOR SPLIT ORDERS

Hi OTM gurus,

While fine tuning my planning result, I fiddled with CONNECT SHIPMENT GRAPHS FOR SPLIT ORDERS parameter but the number of shipments drastically changed. The online help does not provide me clear understanding. I would like to know what the parameter is for and the influence on capacity in equipment reference unit.

Use Case:
3 orders with various ERU counts. two of the orders have SU ERU counts that exceeds the ERU capacity of the biggest truck. Order split is required.

When CONNECT SHIPMENT GRAPHS FOR SPLIT ORDERS is the default "TRUE", I got 5 shipment which is less optimal.

When CONNECT SHIPMENT GRAPHS FOR SPLIT ORDERS is set to "FALSE", I got 2 shipments. However ERU constraint is certainly violated.

The parameter set used is the same except the switching of CONNECT SHIPMENT GRAPHS FOR SPLIT ORDERS. And CHECK EQUIPMENT CAPACITY IN REFERENCE UNITS is "TRUE".

Question:
1. What is the purpose of CONNECT SHIPMENT GRAPHS FOR SPLIT ORDERS?
2. Is it the expected planning behavior that turning off CONNECT SHIPMENT GRAPHS FOR SPLIT ORDERS will cause OTM to ignore CHECK EQUIPMENT CAPACITY IN REFERENCE UNITS setting?

Thanks

Li Yumin
